P. Anton Chekhov, Russian playwright, novelist, and leading figure in Russian literary circles at the time of his death, became internationally famous after World War with the English translations of Constance Garnett. Later, his work has influenced Western literature and theater plays so much so that today days following its staging in theaters worldwide.
Chekhov is probably the last writer's Golden Age of Russian literature, which took place in the context of the czarist regime. Most works of this period were realistic, although he leaned toward mysticism, sadness and introspection, and emotion.
Chekhov was born in 1860 in Taganrog, Ukraine. His father was a merchant and a religious fanatic tyrant, whose character is echoed later in hero and heroines of Chekhov. In 1879 Chekhov entered the Medical School, where he began to publish stories to support himself, his mother, five brothers and sisters, who gained fame for writing, he graduated from medical school.
In 1892, as a doctor, Chekhov bought a property in the village of Melikhov country to become a writer full time. Although Chekhov wrote a great success of countless short stories, such as bears, residents, Ward Number Six, The Black Monk, murder, currants gooseberries, lady with the dog, and Ariadne, his fame comes from his cheek. He wrote his first play long-term, while still in high school and was only twenty-seven when most of them in the first place, Ivanov, was completed in 1887. He was awarded the Pushkin in 1888 and 1900 and elected to the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg.
He died in 1904 in Germany. At that point, Chekhov is bigger celebrity in Russia after Tolstoy.
Chekhov took the ideas from the novel by the late nineteenth century to apply them to the scene. He has also used complex plots and characters unique, simple, common activities every day to put into universal truths. He paints his characters with compassion and without heroes or villains total, while the supply more characters with adversity in his lane. Chekhov's works dealing with individuals and families who have suffered greatly in wealth and social status.
